Quinlan Discusses Dispute Support and Asset Tracing at OffshoreAlert‘s Miami Conference on International Investigations and Intelligence

Paul Quinlan speaking on a panel

CEO Paul Quinlan returned to Miami for the 21st Annual OffshoreAlert Conference, speaking on the panel, "Utilizing Investigators & Intelligence Specialists to Win Disputes & Locate Assets." The panel explored how litigants and litigators can utilize international investigators and intelligence-gatherers to their advantage when navigating disputes and attempting to recover lost assets.

Some of the takeaways from our session:

The value investigators bring isn’t just accessing information. It's knowing where to focus and which threads to tug on to uncover the full story.

Public records and open source research are table stakes and only parts of the equation. Data is increasingly important. But you have to talk to people to find what’s not in databases.

Interviewing is much more art than science. Experience is critical to success in establishing rapport, lowering anxiety, and enlisting people as allies in sharing what they know and pointing you to other sources of information.

Investigators can provide crucial leverage when seeking to resolve disputes – whether through identifying credibility issues, conflicts of interest, pressure points, assets, or relationships between parties and across international jurisdictions.

Thanks to Diana and Ben for being great co-panelists and to Lina Kravitz, Naomi Comerford, and David Marchant for hosting another excellent event and bringing together so many friends and colleagues, the usual eclectic crowd of investigators, attorneys, journalists, financiers, data and cyber experts, and others. Thanks as well to Sequor Law and Bennett Jones for the after-hours hospitality.
