Patrick Michels

Senior Associate

Patrick is a senior associate in Quinlan's Austin office, specializing in investigative, primary-source interviews as well as public records and open source research.

Prior to joining Quinlan, Patrick was an award-winning investigative journalist and audio producer for two decades, whose work focused on government oversight, private contracting, and disaster readiness. At the Center for Investigative Reporting, his major projects included investigations into federally funded shelters for migrant children, federal and local flood control policy, and construction standards in wildfire-prone regions. He is the recipient of an Edward R. Murrow Award in investigative reporting for his work on immigration courts; a Texas Gavel Award for his reporting on the state’s guardianship system; and was a Livingston Award finalist for his investigation into safety standards in the armored car industry.

Patrick’s work has appeared in ProPublica, Politico, Texas Monthly, and on the national public radio show Reveal, among others.
